Policy

We have significant experience of policy formulation, training and application guidance. In addition to writing the earthing policy documentation for most of the UK electricity distribution companies, the involvement at national and international standard level helps to provide more specific application guidance. This can have important safety and cost implications, whilst ensuring company policy evolves to maintain a small gap ahead or just behind standard developments.

Other notable work includes investigating alternative forms of earthing, such as Arc Suppression Coil (four companies), developing and populating Earth Potential Rise (EPR) databases and registers of defects at substations (five companies). Geographical soil surveys have also been carried out in some areas to allow companies to make faster calculations for construction and more appropriate policy decisions.
